Since 1983, the Center for Mediation & Training has helped thousands of married and unmarried couples through the separation and divorce process. Mediation can help resolve issues related to child support, parenting schedules, custody disputes, spousal maintenance (or alimony), dividing up property and other matters, in a private setting without the need to go to court. We actively maintain a diverse network of the top divorce professionals in our community and beyond. We have mediated cases with couples and families that identify across the spectrum of gender identities and sexual orientations. Regardless of your situation, we can connect you with the legal, financial, and mental health professionals who are best suited to meet your needs and fit your budget. Our mediators are available to work with clients online, or in-person in New York City, Rockland County, and Long Island. For couples and families experiencing financial difficulties, we provide no-fee and low-cost mediation options.
In divorce mediation, the two of you meet with a professional mediator to discuss and resolve all the important points for a complete agreement and divorce, as needed. The mediator brings up the necessary subjects, helps you generate options, and keeps the conversation going during difficult moments. The mediator does not decide anything; all decisions are made by you, the clients.
By meeting together, you can make decisions much more quickly and at a much lower cost than by litigating in court. The cooperative nature of the mediation process works for most couples. It is especially effective for parents who want to make sure that their children are not harmed by a long, expensive, hostile legal battle. Some mediations are completed in a few sessions and most mediations are completed within three to six months, at a cost that is far less than the usual fee of just one divorce lawyer.
