Product Description
At Juici Yoga, we are committed to creating a safe space for every body. Our goal is to offer yoga and wellness classes, workshops, and events that are accessible, that respect and honour diversity, and that foster individual and collective well-being.
Our approach is light-hearted to allow students to feel comfortable and at ease, while gently encouraging each student to reveal their full-potential. Our teaching is informed and supported by a life-affirming Tantric yoga philosophy. In Tantra yoga we look to live life from an attitude of acceptance, love and celebration of beauty.
We honour the beauty inherent in individual diversity and expression. We treasure the importance of nurturing loving and respectful relationships with ourselves and others and the crucial importance of a strong and accepting community.
We seek to understand how we, as a Western yoga business, are complicit in systemic racism and colonization. We strive to provide a space where all of our clients, including those who are gender non-conforming, Two-Spirit, non-binary, or trans, feel safe and welcome. Everyone is free to use the non-gendered bathroom and change area.
Juici Yoga’s leadership is engaged in a process of learning about, and addressing, systems of power that perpetuate racism and privilege whiteness. By educating ourselves, we seek to minimize harm and to provide a space that is more inclusive, welcoming, and accessible to Black, Brown and Indigenous people of colour (BIPOC). Education and awareness are at the core of our values. All staff members at Juici Yoga are required to complete a mandatory Antiracism training course.
As a studio and as a community we continue to prioritize learning how to best serve and support our BIPOC and LGBTQ2S clients.
We acknowledge that we live and work on the traditional territory of the Attawandaron (Neutral), Anishnaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples. We are situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land promised to Six Nations, which includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. As Black people whose African ancestors were enslaved and whose blood was shed to build this nation, we are committed to forming alliances and solidarity with Indigenous peoples in our collective commitment to make the promise and the challenge of Truth and Reconciliation real in our communities.
We are making it a practice to publicly acknowledge the history of the land we are situated on in order to re-visibilize Indigenous peoples, whose existence and struggles have been largely absent from the Canadian consciousness for hundreds of years. Our ability to be working and living here now—is a direct benefit of policies of expulsion and assimilation of Indigenous peoples during the time of settlement and Confederation, and since. The harms of these policies are many and are still being felt in Indigenous communities today. Land acknowledgements are just one small, first step in doing this work.
