As with everyone starting a new wardrobe, start with your staple items! Measure yourself at home (or ask a friend for some help), decide on your favourite simple colours, and head to one of our TransFriendly clothing stores to start picking staples! 

You’ll want staple items that never go out of fashion, like plain tees, simple trousers or jeans (that are comfortable for you to tuck in), single-colour jumpers, and simple dresses (if that’s what you’re into).

As soon as you have your staple wardrobe that fits you comfortably, you can start adding things that catch your eye!

The main thing to pay attention to when finding clothes that fit you comfortably should be the way your clothing sits on your body. You want your clothes to flatter your body shape, and using patterns to draw the eye to or away from areas can be very helpful!

If you have little-to-no hips, are on the lean side, and average/tall height, you’re one of the lucky few that don’t need much advice and have the most versatile body type for modern menswear. The best tip is to wear clothes that hug your body while allowing room for movement, and are the right length for your height. 

For pre-op trans guys, patterns are your best friend. Choosing a symmetrical pattern can bring attention to any areas you want to hide, so the more asymmetrical and random the patterns are, the easier it can be to hide binders and larger chests.

Long, flowy dresses are a great go-to for hiding any bulges, with a hem no higher than a few inches above your knee! 

Finding yourself some good, comfortable underwear that fits like a sports bra will be great for wearing trousers, and choosing a thick fabric like denim can really help to hide any bulge, with a long t-shirt or jumper hanging down to your butt area.
