For a dance class, it’s appropriate to wear something comfortable and easy to move in. You don’t have to show up in your finest dress wear, but you can wear something you look and feel confident in! If you’re planning on tucking or packing to attend a dance class, make sure you have supportive underwear that you can be comfortable and move around easily in.

As far as shoes go, make sure they’re clean and comfy. Shoes with thin, smooth soles and short heels are great for dancing.

During contemporary dance rehearsals, outfits can vary at the discretion of the studio owner, but you’ll be informed of any specific outfit requirements beforehand!

Customarily, students will wear a leotard with spandex shorts and a tank top or t-shirt over the leotard. Students often dance barefoot, but may also opt for jazz shoes, ballet shoes or foot paws if they prefer.

Luckily, many dance classes offer lessons for people of any age, at any experience level, so don’t be afraid to have a look around and decide what you’d like to do the most!

Ballet is always a great starting point when learning to dance, as it is seen as the foundation for all styles of dance, and can teach you the right techniques and poise that can carry you into any other type of dance you may show an interest in down the road.
